Cracked underground drain pipe exposed for repair
The problem

Common causes we see across the south-east

Cracked and broken pipes

Ground movement, age and vehicle loads crack clay and PVC drains, letting roots in and waste out.

Sagged or back-falling pipes

A pipe that has dropped holds water and waste permanently — it will keep blocking until the fall is corrected.

Collapsed sections

Badly broken pipe eventually caves in entirely; no amount of clearing fixes a collapsed drain.

Root-damaged joints

Repeated root intrusion at the same joint means the seal is gone — the pipe needs repair, not another clear.

The fix

How SOS Drain Cleaning sorts it

Every repair starts with a CCTV camera and locator: we find the fault, its depth and its exact position, so the repair is targeted rather than exploratory. You'll see the footage and get clear pricing on the options before anything goes ahead.

Depending on the pipe and the fault, that might be a precise excavation and section replacement, or pipe relining — inserting a structural liner that seals cracks and root entry from the inside, usually with minimal digging where the pipe is suitable. We'll tell you honestly which one your drain actually needs.

When a CCTV inspection is recommended

A camera inspection is the non-negotiable first step of any drain repair — it's the difference between digging one accurate hole and excavating half a garden to find a crack.

Questions

Drain Repairs — FAQs

How do you know where to dig?
The CCTV camera carries a transmitter; a locator above ground pinpoints the fault's position and depth, so excavation is small and accurate.
What is pipe relining?
A resin-saturated liner inserted into the existing pipe and cured in place, creating a new structural pipe inside the old one. It seals cracks and root entry points and suits many — not all — damaged drains.
Is relining or excavation better?
It depends on the fault. Collapsed or badly back-falling pipe generally needs excavation; cracks and root-entry joints in otherwise sound pipe often suit relining. The camera tells us which.
Will you show me what's wrong before quoting?
Always. You see the camera footage, we explain the fault in plain English, and you get clear pricing on the options before deciding.
